Audition Information

Admission to the summer program is by audition only. DVD/Video auditions must be postmarked by April 1, 2014, with a $25 check (audition fee). STUDENTS FROM OUTSIDE THE U.S. PLEASE NOTE: DVD audition must be formatted for United States DVD players (region/zone 1 encoded). Click here for DVD/video requirements

All auditioning students must bring a headshot and two full-body photos (3"x5" or 4"x6"). For the girls -- one in first arabesque and another in tendu à la seconde a terre, wearing practice clothes and no skirts. For the boys -- one in first arabesque and another in à la seconde en l'air. Please make sure your name, address and phone number are on the photos. All students must also bring a $25 audition fee.

All students must audition with the age group that they will be in at the beginning of the program on June 23, 2014.

Nobody is allowed to observe the auditions. All students will receive email notification of the results within one week after their audition. 

*No pre-registration is required. Registration will take place during the designated times at each audition location.

DVD Audition Information

STUDENTS FROM OUTSIDE THE U.S. PLEASE NOTE: DVD audition must be formatted for United States DVD players (region/zone 1 encoded).

For those students who are unable to attend any audition class due to extenuating circumstances, please submit the following by April 1, 2014 (postmarked for DVD):

1. Two full-body photos (3"x5" or 4"x6"). For the girls -- one in first arabesque and another in tendu à la seconde a terre, wearing practice clothes and no skirts. For the boys -- one in first arabesque and another in à la seconde en l'air. Please make sure your name, address and phone number are on the photos.

2. An Audition Form and an audition fee of $25.00

3. A DVD or YouTube link with the following:

For Boys and Girls:

I. A short 1-to-3 minute classical variation

II. At the barre, shot in profile:
1. Pliés
2. Tendu & Dégagé
3. Fondu & Développé (front, side, back)
4. Grand Battements

III. In the center (en pointe for advanced female students) facing camera  
1. Adagio combination 
2. Pirouettes (en dehor, en dedan)
3. Two combinations using assemblé, jeté, sissonne, and glissade

IV. Diagonal across the floor:
1. Grand Jeté and tour jeté

For Girls:
1. Echappé combination with passé
2. Fouettés turns (16 if possible)
3. Piqué turns

For Boys:
1. Entrechat Six (16 bars)
2. Single or double tour en l'air
3. Grand pirouettes à la seconde (for advanced boys)
4. Jump combination with échappés, assemblés and jetés and sissonnes (with beats, if possible)

REGISTRATION
When accepted to the 5-Week Summer Intensive, students must register within the required deadlines. Registration is due four weeks from the day that you auditioned and is granted on a first-come-first-serve basis. Once the level reaches full capacity, students will be placed on a waiting list. Please be sure to register and send your deposit in on time to ensure your place in the program. Please see below for registration deadlines:

2-Week Summer Intensive

July 28-August 8, 2014

Tuition cost for the 2-week program is $850. We do not offer a housing option for this program. Admission is by audition only. Students may audition in one of three ways:

  1. Audition by taking an age appropriate class at Miami City Ballet School anytime throughout the year before July 15 (click here for class schedule).
  2. Audition at one of the scheduled audition dates listed below.
  3. Audition by video following the instructions listed below before July 15.

2-Week Summer Program DVD Audition Requirements

Please send an Audition form with all video submissions.

STUDENTS FROM OUTSIDE THE U.S. PLEASE NOTE: DVD audition must be formatted for United States DVD players (region/zone 1 encoded).


I. At the barre, facing sideways to the camera:
1. Grand plié in 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th positions
2. Four tendus in 1st and 5th positions en croix  
3. Degagés from 5th position en croix
4. Adagio with développé to the front, side, and back.
5. Grands battements en croix


II. In the center facing the camera
1. Tendus in croisé, effacé, à la seconde, devant and derrière.
2. Pirouette from 5th position
3. Adagio with développé front, side, and back can also include pirouettes from 4th position
4. Sauté in first, second, and changement in 5th position.
5. Assemblé
6. Petit allegro with jeté and glissade etc.
7. Simple grand allegro from the corner.
8. Piqué turns and châiné turns from the corner.

III If already started Pointe:
1. Relevés on 2 feet in first and second position.
2. Echappés in second and fourth positions.
3. Passé relevés from front to back, and back to front.
4. Piqué turns from the corner.

3-Week Summer Course

July 7-25, 2014

Appropriate for current Creative Movement, Ballet Preparatory I & II, Level I, II & Boy’s Dance students:
This summer we will be offering a brand new program for our youngest students, so they don’t have to take the whole summer off from dance! We are also offering a new class called “Youth Ballet” for any student, age 10-13, who has never studied ballet before or did as a young child and wants to start training again. Tell your friends about these new class offerings and come join us yourself!

No audition is needed to register for the 3-week summer course. Please call our School Registrar today at 305-929-7007 ext. 1807 to sign up! Once classes fill up we will start a waiting list.
